Sign up now for the May 15th project.

Project Details:
Ken Stowell has our group working on Sunday the 16th taking shingles off of a building at Lake Eleanor. We'll be camping in Yellow Pines on Friday night and then camping at Lake Eleanor Saturday night. This will allow everyone to get as much climbing/hiking in Saturday, then relax at the lake on Sunday after the completion of the project.

How this Works:
A few days prior to the weekend, I will send you a gate pass for free admission to the park, along with information on the location of our campsite. We will start work at 9 a.m. Saturday and finish near 3 p.m. The work will be such that you can work at your own pace, and the NPS will provide all required tools.

You're free to do as you like after we complete the project. Some people will go climbing while others may go for a hike.

Please be awake by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and ready to leave no later than 8:30. It does take a while to eat, clean up and get ready to work.

Previous Projects:
Previous projects can be viewed in the Gallery.

Work Gear:
Please bring proper shoes to work in (NO TEVAS OR SANDALS). Tennis shoes are OK, hiking boots are better. The park service should have plenty of gloves too, but if you have your own, bring them. Also, be prepared to bring a lunch and some water. We usually take a break around noon and eat.

Weather:
The weather in Yosemite can change within a few hours. Please be prepared for it.

Camping:
This information will be provided to you with the Yosemite Gate Pass when you sign up. The Yellow Pines campground has two 'comfort' stations and water is provided. All food MUST be kept in the bear-proof boxes located in each campsite. Updates: Check this page or the web site at http://www.pgvip.net for some updates and other details.

Are the Campsites reachable by car?

Hi ,

I was wondering if both the campsites (Yellow Pines and Lake Eleanor) are reachable by car.
Or do we have to trek some distance to get there?

Thanks,
Umesh

Umesh, Yes, Yellow Pines

Umesh,

Yes, Yellow Pines campsite is just off of Southside Drive (see http://pgvip.net/sites/default/files/images/map_valley_floor_1.jpg)

Lake Eleanor is a different story. The park service said that it's accessible by car. The camp host at Yellow Pines is making sure of this on Friday and will get back to us.

Thanks!

Thanks for the update, Jack.

86 May 15th

I just found out I have a Memorial next Saturday for #200 and will have to cancel.
I will refrain from the "Poor Timing" jokes.

Is rock climbing skills necessary ?

Is there any volunteer work that does not require rock-climbing ?
I have absolutely no experience but would like to help.

Thanks,
Umesh

Umesh, Not a problem. Not

Umesh,

Not a problem.

Not everyone is a rock climber. Some people like to spent time going on a hike or swimming at Sentinel Beach.

Thanks !

That's great ! Thank you !
